Desired Personality Traits

A personality is defined as characteristics that form the character of an individual. Employers are constantly looking to employee certain desired personality types to work in their organizations. A trained human resources executive can make out, even before starting an interview, what type of characteristics an employee has. You are judged by the way you walk in, the clothes you are wearing and your confidence level in the way you move and are ready to hold out for a firm handshake.  Some of the consulting firms have studied the statistics of what an employer is looking for in an ideal candidate.

Top level companies are looking for confidence, professionalism and high energy in the desired employees. Another thing that gets high scores is a personality that is self-monitoring and corrects itself as and when required. A personality that self-monitors and corrects its own course of action is high on the desired list of candidates.  Simon Chatagy (Chief Consular of Jobsdhamaka) Say, Curiosity is another trait that is highly appreciated, this does not mean the type of gossip or curiosity about one’s co-workers or other employees of the organization, this kind of curiosity comes in the realm of ‘intellectual curiosity’, it relates to the problem solving skills and an ability to learn new technologies that are constantly introduced in the work place.

One last word about the body language, this advice is repeated so many times, it has become a cliché, it says maintain a good posture, do not slouch, relax or move constantly in the chair. The candidates often feel uncomfortable maintaining eye contact, it is a good idea to maintain eye contact as long as possible, but do not stare, and pointing fingers is another bad habit one needs to avoid. Lastly, crossed arms show resistance and rigidity, open arms are a sign of open attitude towards the other’s point of view.  It will be a good policy to critically examine the traits the employers are looking for in candidates and cultivate as many of them as possible.

Modern Working Environment Requires Ex-ordinary Skills

Modern working environment is competitive, fast and requires extra ordinary skills from each and every job seeker, on entry or other levels.  If you are not in the habit of living in a fast lane, forget about working, stay at home and do something else and subsist on below the poverty line level income.  If you really want to succeed in the fast lane than brush up your skills, acquire new ones and learn to keep one step ahead.  It is difficult but it can be done on Jobsdhamaka. Forget about your grammar skills, your expertise in language, your old fashioned story telling ways, ‘I keep highest ethical and professional’ standards label that is faithfully trotted by each new or old entrant in the job market, tell them how you propose to do that, embellish it with a story and you are likely to catch the eye of the employer within a second.

It is difficult to acquire a whole new skill set that is needed to keep your head above water in a cut throat and competitive world. A shorter version of skill set needs contains familiarity with the digital technology, super communication, including both oral and written skills, a cool head on your shoulders because it is not possible to run to your supervisor each time you face a problem, your problem solving skills have to be in top condition.  Keep yourself informed on what is happening in your world, in a world that is digitally connected threats can come from any part of globe; you need to be aware of them all the time.  For instance, a latest news item caught the eye recently; hackers have fine tuned a technology that hacks in computer through your Skype calls.  If you use digital camera they can easy hack into your computer system and steal your information.  Life threatening isn’t it, your bank account number, your data bank, everything can be stolen easily.  Who says life is easy in a digitally connected world.

Problem Solving Skills: Use both Sides of Your Brain

Throughout your life you face problems, some are small, and others are bigger. Some you solve yourself, to find solutions for other problems you may seek help, from your parents, siblings, extended family, and friends or from your mentor, if you have any. You are likely to develop some problem solving skills.  Problem solving skills are also a part of a repertoire of a good employee, and Top employers want their employees to have some problem solving skills as well, along with good educational background, emotional intelligence and soft skills. They expect you to solve minor day to day problems at the workplace yourself. During the interview for a job you may have to face some questions or situations where your problem solving skills will be tested.

You need to use both right and left hand side of your brain to solve problems, in other words logical reasoning and imagination both play important part in the exercise.  When faced with a problem, you need to look at it dispassionately, in a level headed manner, consider all the facts and then look for a viable solutions. From Jobsdhamaka Consultant’s point of view, Take the example of something as mundane as losing keys of your bike. You have to go urgently because your girl friend is waiting for you or your friends are sending messages after messages and you are in hurry to leave and cannot find your bike keys.  What are going to do, blame your younger brother for taking your bike, or accuse your mother of hiding your keys or use logic and reasoning to solve the problem. You try to remember what you did when you came home late last night, and immediately recall that the keys dropped on the ground and you were too tired to pick it up, you rush to your room and fit it on the ground. Your problem is solved because you looked at it dispassionately. Keeping level head and looking for solutions is an important element of problem solving skills.
